About this course

California Youth Leadership Corps (CYLC) – West Los Angeles College

West Los Angeles College offers traditional transfer and associate degrees through its academic programs as well as certificate and special programs. West fosters a diverse learning community committed to student success, racial equity, social justice, and environmental responsibility. Through quality instruction, programs, supportive services, community partnerships, and career development, the College encourages excellence and develops student leaders. A West education enriches students with the knowledge and skills needed to earn associate and baccalaureate degrees and certificates; to transfer; to build careers; and to pursue life-long learning.

California Youth Leadership Corps (CYLC) has partnered with West Los Angeles College to create a new community change learn-and-earn career pathway in Environmental Justice Studies. The CYLC-West Los Angeles Climate Action and Environmental Justice Pathway Program will prepare students to become community organizers, change agents, and leaders in their local communities.

Latest Information:

CYLC-West Los Angeles College applies learn-and-earn community change career pathway programs that enrich and prepare historically marginalized youth for community change careers. The CYLC model provides students work-based learning opportunities with partner organizations who provide critical services to historically marginalized communities.

Students who participate have the opportunity to be awarded up to $10,000 in stipend awards and a scholarship of $5,000 while they are enrolled in our CYLC-WLAC program.

Eligibility: CYLC serves community college students who are primarily between the ages of 18-24; however, students who are over the age of 24 are eligible to apply. CYLC-WLAC student fellows must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 program units per semester (or 1 program unit for summer and winter sessions) to apply. Students will be selected and onboarded on an ongoing basis.
