About this course
California Youth Leadership Corps (CYLC) – American River College
American River College, is serving the greater Sacramento region and offers education and support for students to strengthen basic skills, earn associate degrees and certificates, transfer to other colleges and universities, and achieve career as well as other academic and personal goals.
California Youth Leadership Corps (CYLC) has partnered with American River College (ARC) to create a new community change learn-and-earn career pathway in Leadership and Social Change. The CYLC-American River College Leadership and Social Change Career Pathway Program will prepare students to become community organizers, change agents, and leaders in their local communities. ARC strives to foster authentic relationships with tribal nations to enhance the experiences and outcomes of Native students, honoring the history and resilience of the Nisenan, Maidu, and Miwok peoples. This dedication to cultural respect and collaboration reinforces ARC’s role as an inclusive institution committed to uplifting all students, making them an ideal partner for CYLC’s Leadership and Social Change Career.
Latest Information:
CYLC-American River College will be offering learn-and-earn community pathways that enriches and prepares historically marginalized students for community change careers in the nonprofit and public sectors. While students pursue their postsecondary credential (either a certificate or an AA), they participate in paid work-based learning opportunities with partner community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations and the public sector in their local communities. These nonprofit organizations help to prepare CYLC student participants with the community organizing, advocacy, and leadership skills to enter a community change career in environmental justice fields.
Students who participate have the opportunity to be awarded up to $10,000 in stipend awards and a scholarship of $5,000 while they are enrolled in CYLC-American River College.
Eligibility: Students must be enrolled at American River College ARC to apply. Priority will be given to students with a declared major in Ethnic Studies, Social Justice, Political Science, Sociology, and or a CLP-CYLC approved change-related field. CYLC-ARC student fellows must be actively pursuing their degree and be enrolled in a minimum of 3 program units per semester (or 1 program unit for summer and winter sessions) throughout the year of their participation in the program. Students engaged in the work-based learning opportunities must be enrolled in the work experience (WEXP) course at ARC. Students who have already earned an AA or BA are ineligible for this program.
