Our National Partners
The Democracy Commitment
Through our partnership with The Democracy Commitment, co-founded by our Steering Committee member, Brian Murphy, President of DeAnza College, we are expanding community change education as it intersects with civic engagement in America’s community colleges. Most of our local programs are based in member institutions of The Democracy Commitment, and we foster the growth of this important initiative in all our work.
The Democracy Commitment is modeled after the American Democracy Project, a national coalition of public state colleges and universities committed to civic and democratic work, sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU.)
“The Democracy Commitment (TDC) is a national initiative providing a platform for development and expansion of community college programs, projects and curricula aiming at engaging students in civic learning and democratic practice across the country. Our goal is that every graduate of an American community college have had an education in democracy. This includes all of our students, whether they aim to transfer to university, achieve an associate degree or obtain a certificate.”
Emerald Cities Collaborative
Our partnership with Emerald Cities Collaborative, founded by our Steering Committee co-chair, Denise Fairchild, reflects our deep commitment to economic and environmental justice. Addressing environmental and economic sustainability is central to our vision, our mission, and the hearts and minds of the students in our programs.
“Emerald Cities Collaborative (ECC) is a national non-profit network of organizations working together to advance a sustainable environment while creating greater economic opportunities for all. We’re transforming the energy efficiency sector in a high road way, by retrofitting building stock, creating high wage jobs, and revitalizing the local economies of our metropolitan regions.”
